The Swire Group dates back to 1816, when the parent company,
John Swire & Sons, was founded as an import-export agency in Liverpool.
Today 135.000 people are employed by the Swire Group. The group's wide-ranging
interests today span four continents, with their major operations concentrated
in Asia, the Pacific Rim, Australia and the USA. Its activities take
in corporate shipping, aviation (Cathay Pacific), and a variety of
manufacturing and engineering industries, beverages, properties, cold storage,
insurance agriculture and retailing.
As part of the Swire Group, Swire Shipping, based in Sydney, Australia, offers so well
port-to-port as door-to-door transport solutions from Belgium and Holland to most locations in
the Pacific area. All destinations, for which both conventional cargoes,
containers and ro/ro cargoes are accepted, are either served by direct vessels
or are served in transshipment via Auckland, Singapore, Lae or Santo.

The Swire network encompasses numerous services, all under one
umbrella, and serving different areas:
EPE SERVICE - (Europe Pacific Express service)
The EPE
service concentrates mainly on New Caledonia and the islands north of New Caledonia, including Fiji, Micronesia and Western Samoa.
This service concentrates on containerized cargoes that are mainly transshipped
over Singapore
SEA SERVICE – (South
East Asia service)
This service concentrates
on Papua New Guinea, serving all major ports and offering an extensive network
of regular and frequent connections.
Apart from PNG, the southern islands in
the Pacific area are also served, as well as the main ports of the Australian
Eastern Seaboard and Darwin (in transshipment via Singapore).
